Llewelyn Morgan Williams (1855-1935), was the father of Mary Christabel Williams who married Arthur Sladden in April 1914.

Llewelyn Williams was born in 1855 at Verwick, Cardiganshire, the third of five children of Benjamin Williams, a schoolmaster, and his wife, Elizabeth.  He was baptised at Verwick on 11th November 1855.

At the time of the 1871 census, aged 15, Llewelyn was lodging in Llanstephan, working as a pupil teacher but, a few years later, he decided to enter the church.  His first post was as Curate of Llanllyfni from 1879-1880.  He was at Margam, Oakwood, Glamorganshire, from 1880-1881 and Margam, Taibach from 1881-1883.  He then became Vicar of Pontlottyn, Glamorganshire from 1883-1887, of Beaufort, Monmouthshire from 1887-1889, and Rector of Dowlais from 1889.

Llewelyn married Georgina Elizabeth Rowlands in 1881 at Cardigan.  They had eight daughters before they finally had a son:  Florence Olivia (1883-1925), Margaret Irene (1885-1974), Mary Christabel (1887-1981), Georgina Millicent (1890-1986), Kathleen Beryl (1892-1981), Gwladus Olwen (1894-1974), Dorothy Monica (1896-1987), Cornelia Gwendoline (1898-1983) and Elmer Howell Morgan (1901-1931).

At the time of the 1911 census, Reverend Williams was at Dowlais Rectory with six of his surviving nine children; Georgina and Elmer were staying with their mother at The Mount, Newport.

From 1920 until his death in 1935, Llewelyn Williams was Rector of Llanwenarth Citra, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.  He died at The Rectory, Llanwenarth Citra on 4th November 1935, aged 80, and was buried three days later; Gilbert Joyce, Bishop of Monmouth, conducted the burial service.  The next burial recorded in the register was that of Reverend Williams’ widow, Georgina, who died 2½ months later.  Their only son had died in 1931 but their daughters (with the exception of the eldest) all lived until their eighties or nineties.
