My dear Cyril,

Very many congratulations!  Dear old boy, I am glad you have carried it off successfully, you may be sure we should welcome no one more than Mela as a sister-in-law.  I am writing to tell her how pleased I am. Father & Mother are pleased too, as you know they are both so fond of Mela.  I was not forgetting you on Monday night, & the news this morning was not such a terrific surprise to me!

This shall be a birthday letter too.  Very many happy returns of what I expect will be one of the happiest birthdays of your life.  May you have many more like it.

Please thank Kath for her letter, we are much looking forward to seeing her on Friday, I will meet her by the 4.17.

Mother improves slowly, but will take a little time to get really strong I expect.

Much love from
your loving sister

May E Sladden

P.S. Mrs Wood paid us an unexpected visit yesterday, she & Mr Wood were motoring through, both looked very well.  They asked after you, if we had known your news sooner they would have been most interested.  Mother was dying to tell Mrs Ashwin this morning when she came to see her, but refrained until we have been given formal leave to spread it abroad.
