NEW RULES FOR BADSEY PIG CLUB

The annual meeting of Badsey and Aldington Pig Club took place at the Wheatsheaf Inn, Badsey, where it was revealed by the secretary (Mr V Wasley) that the club had a balance in hand of £44 3s 7d.  Members’ contributions and other sums totalled £390 4s 4d for the 1952-53 season while payments into the bank amounted to £384 10s 2d.

Out of a membership of 183, only seven were present at the commencement of the annual meeting of Badsey and Aldington Pig Club held at the Wheatsheaf Assembly Rooms on Thursday, over which Mr E Salter presided.

BADSEY PIG CLUB – SPKC Regional Officer’s Helpful Talk

Badsey Pig Club held a successful dinner on Thursday last week at the Wheatsheaf Assembly Room.  The meal was prepared by Miss C Wixey, hostess of the inn, and helpers.

ANNUAL DINNER – The Badsey Pig Club held its third annual dinner at the Wheatsheaf Inn on Thursday, Mr G E Jones (Chairman) presiding.  An excellent repast was provided by the Host and Hostess (Mr & Mrs T Marshall).  In replying to “The Badsey Pig Club”, the Secretary (Mr G Crisp) said that these annual dinners were made possible by the strong financial position of the Club, mainly due to the staunch support of the members.

PIG CLUB DINNER – The annual dinner in connection with the Pig Club was held at the Wheatsheaf Inn on Tuesday when about 30 sat down to a splendid repast, provided by the hostess (Mrs T Marshall).  Mr G E Jones was in the chair, supported by Messrs G Crisp (Secretary), A Dore, E Crisp and T Marshall.  “Badsey Pig Club” was given by the Chairman, and Mr E Crisp suitably responded.  The Secretary explained the financial position of the Club which, he said, showed a substantial balance in hand.

COUNTY PETTY SESSIONS – MONDAY

Before Mr J Ashwin (Chairman), Messrs G Swift, R Aldington, C A Binyon, J Edwards, W FitzHerbert, Major B C Cobb, Capt H Richardson, and the Mayor of Evesham (Councillor Richard White).

BADSEY EXTENSION REFUSED – Mr W Marshall, of the Wheatsheaf Inn, Badsey, applied for an extension of hours from 10 pm to 11 pm on the occasion of the local Pig Club dinner.  The application was refused, the Bench thinking the dinner should be completed by ten o’clock.

PIG CLUB SUPPER – A supper to mark the reaching a £100 balance in hand by the local Pig Club was held at the Wheatsheaf Inn on Thursday last, when 35 sat down to an excellent meal provided by Mr & Mrs T Marshall.  Mr A Dore, the Chairman, presided, supported by Messrs G Jones (Trustee), G Crisp (Secretary), A Perkins, E Crisp, F Hill and E Stephenson.  The Chairman, in proposing “The Badsey Pig Club”, mentioned that the Club was started in 1902, with a few members, the first Chairman being Mr George Jones and the Secretary Mr E Crisp.

THE PIG CLUB – A smoking concert was held at The Wheatsheaf on New Year’s Day in aid of the Badsey Pig Club to help wipe off the debts owing to serious losses.  Mr E H Collett presided and upwards of a hundred members and friends spent a most enjoyable evening.  There was an excellent programme.  Mr E Ballard opened the proceedings with gramophone selections, and the Chairman asked the Secretary (Mr E Crisp) to give his report of the past season’s work.

CHORISTER 40 YEARS – Funeral of Mr G E Jones of Badsey

The funeral of Mr George Edwin Jones, market gardener, of Badsey, took place on Wednesday.  Mr Jones, who was 72, died at the hospital on Sunday.

He was well known in the village, having been a Vicar’s warden for a number of years, a special constable and a member of the British Legion, and the RAOB.  For 40 years he had been a member of the Parish Church Choir.  He is survived by a widow and a son and daughter.  Mr & Mrs Jones celebrated their golden wedding six months ago.
