Norah SLADDEN (1874-1955)

Biographical Details

Norah Sladden (1874-1955) was the niece of Julius Sladden, being the daughter of his elder brother Francis.

Norah was born at Ash, Kent, on 18th September 1874, and was baptized in the Church of St Nicholas, Ash, on 18th October 1874.  Norah did not marry and remained at home with her parents (firstly Guston Farm in Ash, then Delph House in Sandwich, then Trouville, Middle Deal Road, in Deal).

In March 1916 Norah was seriously ill, with numerous references to “poor Norah”.  It was thought that she would shortly die, but in fact she outlasted all her family, not dying until the age of 81!

In 1917, Norah and her mother and sister moved to Evesham when Marian went into partnership with her cousin, May Sladden, at Greenhill School.  They had a house at Bengeworth.

At the time of the 1939 register, Norah was living at Spes Bona, Canterbury.

At some point after the Second World War, Norah came to live at Seward House, Badsey, with her cousins.  She died at Seward House on 21st November 1955.
